Hinges cracked and edges rubbed, but boards firmly attached. Each volume with a flat spine, gilt volume number and original red leather title label: "Blomfield's Geography". Printed title with engraved vignette and light offsetting from the frontis. Clear English text throughout. Some intermittent foxing, but overall a clean set. His parents were Stephen Blomfield (born c.1740, died 27 November 1809) and Elizabeth Blomfield (née Luiss (Lewis), born c.1750, died 17 March 1799). Ezekiel was the youngest of four children. He was born on 28 October 1778 at North Walsham, Norfolk then moved with his parents to Norwich. Heward, Westminster Review Office, Strand, London - Single Sheet", post-marked "5 No 5 1833". pp.30. 9.0" x 5.5" Curiously there is also a letter from Dr. Thomas Clark, Professor of Chemistry Marischal College, Aberdeen (dated Oct 2nd 1833) to 3 blank leaves (verso of the advertisement, the space after the text on p.30, and the recto of the last leaf) * Referenced by: OCLC 17758640 / Goldsmiths'-Kress no. 27884. ** "THOMAS CLARK (1801-1867) - Known as "Hot Blast" Clark! A Scottish chemist, he was born at Ayr on the 31st of March 1801. In 1826 he was appointed lecturer on chemistry at the Glasgow mechanics' institute, and in 1831 he took the degree of M.D. at the university of that city. Two years later he became professor of chemistry in Marischal College, Aberdeen, but was obliged to give up the duties of that position in 1844 through ill-health, though nominally he remained professor till 1860. His name is chiefly known in connexion with his process for softening hard waters, and his water tests, patented in 1841. The last twenty years before his death at Glasgow on the 27th of November 1867 were occupied with the study of the historical origin of the Gospels.

Next is a folding advert: "Fur Archaeologische U. Naturhistorische Sammlungen" The frontis is of: "A Village Built On Piles In A Swiss Lake." Clear English text and illustrations throughout . Just a few brown spots at the front and end of the text. VG. ** "..The first three editions appeared in February, April, and November 1863, respectively. A much-revised fourth edition appeared in 1873. Antiquity of Man, as it was known to contemporary readers, dealt with three scientific issues that had become prominent in the preceding decade: the age of the human race, the existence of ice ages, and Charles Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection. Lyell used the book to reverse or modify his own long-held positions on all three issues. The book drew sharp criticism from two of Lyell's younger colleagues – paleontologist Hugh Falconer and archaeologist John Lubbock – who felt that Lyell had used their work too freely and acknowledged it too sparingly.
